FAQs

Here are some common questions about the challenge

What is the Choose How You Move Workplace Challenge?

It is a rewards programme designed to encourage Warwick District Council staff to walk, wheel, run, cycle or take public transport to cut air pollution, reduce congestion and improve health and wellbeing. It runs until 21 June 2024.

What type of activity counts?

All recorded walking, wheeling, running, cycling, bus and train trips will count towards the challenge.

Where possible, we would like to encourage you to replace car journeys for work travel - both your commute and site visits or meetings - with active or sustainable alternatives. However, activities completed when working from home e.g. a lunchtime walk or run will also count.

How do I record my trips?

Toggle the switch in the top right corner of the app to "Tracking is on" to record your trips automatically. Keeping the toggle switched on means all of your eligible activities will be recorded.

For those of you who prefer to kick-start their recording manually, the same tracking toggle will do this job. Just toggle the switch to off then on again and your trip with be recorded from the first step.

To make things easier, the app will detect the end of your journey automatically, even if you've kick-started the recording via the toggle.

What is the difference between BetterTickets and BetterPoints?

BetterPoints are a financially backed currency that you can earn by recording your trips - over time these add up. Your points balance can be viewed at the top of the homepage of your app. Once you've collected enough points you can redeem them for vouchers or donate to your favourite charity (1,000 BetterPoints is equivalent to £1).

BetterTickets are prize draw entries earned for doing a specific activity. Prizes can include bundles of BetterPoints or specific things e.g. event tickets, an e-bike.

What can I spend my points on?

You can exchange your BetterPoints for vouchers from our rewards catalogue by tapping Rewards in your app. You will find offers available from national retailers and local businesses too. You can also donate them to charity by then selecting the Donate your BetterPoints button.

Can I compare my activities with colleagues?

Yes! You can set up a personal leaderboard with other Warwick District Council staff. To find out how, tap or click here.

I live too far away from work to consider travelling by foot, bike or public transport.  Any ideas?

Give it a trial run. You may discover that public transport, walking or cycling is a viable option for your commute or site visits. If it isn’t, you could consider building some sustainable travel into part of your journey i.e. Park and Stride.

If you're travelling to the new Saltisford Office, check out this page here for useful links and suggestions.

Plus, if you are working from home then why not try a virtual commute e.g. a morning walk or cycle to get outdoors and participate.

Can I take part if I use a wheelchair, and if so, how do I record my journeys?

Yes! All kinds of wheelchairs can be tracked as 'wheeling' in our app. Due to the motion sensors inbuilt in your device, and our algorithms in the app, it may assume you are cycling, rather than wheeling. In your timeline, after completing your journey, you will be able to amend this to wheeling and your journey will be updated. You will be awarded the same amount of points/tickets as other sustainable transport modes.
